Here’s everything you need to know about Disney Plus
The Mouse has landed.
Folks, the Mouse has landed.

Disney Plus | $6.99 |
Disney Plus Bundle
(with Hulu & ESPN+) |
$12.99 |
Disney+ debuted Nov. 12 and 10 million users signed up: It’s officially a thing. The memes were instant and galactic, and you can finally watch that episode of Boy Meets World where they go to Disney World on an ad-hoc basis. The service offers an overwhelming barrage of nostalgic pop culture that’ll make you spend the first several hours scrolling through its hulking library (though, perhaps somewhat ironically, you can’t actually watch Edward Norton’s The Hulk just yet).
Here’s everything you need to know about the Disney streaming service before signing up.
What’s on Disney+? Here’s everything we know:
Disney Plus subscription cost, bundle, and plans
As the Daily Dot noted this week: One way to save some cash is to purchase the subscription bundle that allows you to enjoy Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ for $12.99 per month. Disney+ on its own coasts $6.99 per month, so you are saving money by combining the three options into one monthly fee. Another money-saving option open to all customers is paying for a year upfront. If you commit to a year of the service right off the bat, you will reduce your monthly costs to $5.83 per month, essentially giving you two free months. And most importantly: You can start streaming with a seven-day free trial to see if it’s your cup of tea.
Additionally, Disney+ comes with 4K streaming built right into the basic subscription. You can watch from up to four different devices at once, too, and Disney has said it isn’t immediately cracking down on password sharing. My guess is that’s because it’s targeting engagement so it can tout just how many people watch its programming.
The $6.99 per month price point is cheaper than Netflix, Amazon Prime, and HBO Now.
Disney Plus deals
Current Verizon customers who are subscribers to Verizon wireless unlimited can get a year’s worth of Disney+ for free and have until June 1, 2020, to claim this deal. But if you weren’t subscribed prior to the Nov. 12 launch date, tough luck. If you pre-ordered Disney+ and had the Verizon eligibility, you can carry that pre-paid pricing deal over a year and still enjoy the free year first. Again, that’s for Verizon customers who subscribe to 4G, LTE, 5G unlimited wireless, or Fios home internet services.

Disney Plus devices
Far as platforms go? The short answer is you can basically take your pick. For starters, you can stream your content at DisneyPlus.com. There is also an app available for Apple and Android. Disney+ is also supported via Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, PlayStation 4, Roku, Samsung devices, and Xbox One. It won’t be hard to access the content once you’ve subscribed.
Disney Plus shows
In addition to the legacy content–500 movies and 7,500 episodes across all sorts of beloved material from your childhood–Disney+ launched with a suite of original series. The clear-cut headliner is The Mandolorian, a glossy, top-shelf Star Wars serial that’s already sparking controversy with its first big shocker and spoiler. Other highlights from the first wave of Disney+ content include:
- Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader’s holiday comedy Noelle.
- The World According to Jeff Goldblum, a Jeff Goldblum-hosted explainer and travelogue series where he tackles points of interest like sneakers and ice cream.
- A live-action Lady and the Tramp movie made with rescue dogs.
- The Imagineering Story, a warm and fuzzy docuseries about Walt Disney. Yes, it’s company propaganda but it’s downright earnest.
- Encore! which the Daily Dot called a “love letter to high school theater” in its review.
- And speaking of high school, the well-liked High School Musical reboot debuted on Disney+ as well. We’re also all about it.
Disney+ is also developing sequels for nostalgic properties like Hocus Pocus, Lizzie McGuire, and yes, more Star Wars spin-offs.
For an exhaustive list, here are all of the Disney+ titles you can stream effective Week 1.
What won’t be on Disney Plus
As the Daily Dot wrote previously: “Due to licensing complications, there are a number of high-profile titles that won’t be on the service at launch. Netflix, for example, is sitting on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Thor: Ragnarok, Doctor Strange, Coco, Moana, and Beauty and the Beast, which rank among the best movies on Netflix. That said, Disney is reportedly working to renegotiate those deals, and it’s banking on the appeal of its 2019 blockbusters, which includes Avengers 4 and Captain Marvel. You also won’t be seeing any R-rated films, like Deadpool, which is owned by the recently acquired Fox.”
Ultimately, if you want to binge the Marvel MCU films, it may take a while to make it happen. Here’s every MCU movie and show missing from Disney+ (and what we know about when they’ll join the party).
