Holiday-based horror series Into the Dark airs its Christmas and New Year’s episodes, the latter coming one week early. What’s new on Hulu in December 2018: Editor’s picks

The Bisexual

With her new series The Bisexual, Desiree Akhavan tells an atypical, but more enticing coming-out story of a lesbian who must admit she also likes men. She not only explores the gray area of her queer identity, but also the added awkwardness of trying to find yourself in your 30s. This show tackles discussions about labels, generational resentment, and the fluidity of sex regardless of what genitals are involved. Despite being a little breathless, in six episodes the show accomplishes what it should: validate the blurrier lines of sexuality. —Sarah Jasmine Montgomery

Minding the Gap

Minding the Gap is about how hard it is to break the cycle. Be it the cycle of small-town malaise or familial troubles. It’s an observant film, in search of answers that only time can bring. For audiences, the wait is only 90 minutes. For director Bing Liu and his friends, the search has taken most of their lives. —Eddie Strait

Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie

Tiny Shoulders: Rethinking Barbie is a nuanced balancing act as it tells two stories side-by-side: the long and often weighted history of Barbie and Mattel’s efforts to change Barbie’s iconic shape for the first time in its history. Barbie may be an avatar, but it’s evident that the doll has always been much more than that—for better and worse—to critics and consumers alike. —Michelle Jaworksi

Professor Marston and the Wonder Women

The 2017 biopic that depicts the origins of Wonder Woman on the comic book page and the polyamorous relationship between William Moulton Marston, the man who wrote her, and the women who helped inspire her is a worthy companion piece to Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. It’s a layered and nuanced film that fell under the radar at the beginning of awards season, one treats its subject matter with respect and dignity. Luke Evans, Rebecca Hall, and Bella Heathcote, but Hall truly shines as Elizabeth Holloway Marston, a brilliant mind in her own right.—Michelle Jaworski
