Are the Steelers and Seahawks still Super Bowl contenders? Are they even playoff teams?

Week 2 might feel like to soon to ask these questions, but after underwhelming performances last week, Pittsburgh and Seattle look like shadows of their former selves.

Things are worse for the Steelers than they are for the Seahawks, though. The Steelers got absolutely dominated by the Patriots on Sunday Night Football last week.

The fear is that without Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell, the Steelers will be one-dimensional on offense. That fear is confirmed after the Steelers had an anemic showing against New England. Pittsburgh has to figure out where points are going to come from if teams can neutralize JuJu Smith-Schuster. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger couldn’t really forge a connection with any other pass catchers against the Patriots.

The Seahawks won their game against the Bengals, but good teams should probably be stomping this inferior Bengals roster. Seattle made unknown Bengals pass catcher John Ross III look like a star as he racked up 7 catches for 158 yards and 2 TDs. Finding a way to win is commendable, but the Seahawks will have to play better if they are going to remain a contender in the NFC.

In their 21-20 victory over Cincinnati, Seattle’s defense held it together despite giving up over 400 yards passing. Quinton Jefferson, Jadeveon Clowney, and Al Woods all had big days for the Hawks. Overall, Seattle’s defense looked stout. Though the secondary was leaky, the linebacking corps might prove among the league’s best.

On offense, quarterback Russell Wilson is going to have to get more out of a passing attack that was led by a fine but not spectacular performance from D.K. Metcalf (4 for 89).

This weak showing was better than Pittsburgh, whose leading pass catchers were Schuster with 78 yards and James Washington with 51 yards.

Both of these teams need to get better fast. Only one will win Sunday.

1) Sling TV

Sling TV

Both Sling Blue ($25 per month) or Sling Orange + Blue ($40 per month)  include NFL Network and a number of sports channels—like three ESPN channels, NBCSN, and FS1—and it’s still a nice perk that Sling subscribers can order a la carte packagesSling TV also offers a special Latino package for bilingual viewers. Sling TV is currently offering a deal where you can subscribe for 40% off the regular price for the first month of your subscription. That means Sling Blue would cost $15, and Sling Orange + Blue would cost $25. (Here’s a complete guide to Sling TV channels and our Sling TV review.)

For $10 extra per month, you can get NFL RedZone via the Sling Blue Sports Extra package.

How to use AirTV with Sling

AirTV solves one of the Sling’s biggest problems: The inability to receive all of your local channels. By purchasing a basic AirTV for $79.99 or the AirTV Player for $119.99, you can merge those local channels into your Sling TV, (or on your mobile device if you have the basic AirTV). As the Daily Dot wrote in its AirTV review, “It’s practically magic.”

The basic AirTV is a dual-tuner streaming device, while the AirTV Player is basically an upgraded Chromecast that has Netflix preinstalled. You’ll still need to own an HD antenna because even though AirTV gets you access to your local channels, it doesn’t actually physically show them to you.

But AirTV—which has no monthly fee—serves to strengthen one of Sling’s biggest weaknesses compared to other live streaming services like Hulu with Live TVYouTube TV, and PlayStation Vue. All those services have plenty of local channels.

Playstation Vue

If you’d like to watch live NFL games directly from your PS4, PlayStation Vue is your best bet. PlayStation also works with streaming devices like Roku and Amazon Fire products, but what separates PlayStation from the rest of the streaming services is that it’s also compatible with Kodi. No matter how you stream, you’ll get to choose from four tiers of channels—all but the cheapest include NFL Network. From there, you can also add NFL RedZone as part of the $10-per-month Sports Pack, which also unlocks ESPN Bases Loaded, ESPN Classic, Longhorn Network, Outside TV, and NBCUniversal regional sports networks. You can see the full list of PlayStation Vue channels here. Two other great perks: You can stream on up to five devices at once, and there’s also unlimited cloud DVR.

There’s another way to watch NFL Sunday Ticket without DirecTV: Amazon Prime. While you can’t pay for the package using Amazon Prime, you can at least watch all of the games on the service. College students can purchase NFL Sunday Ticket at a discounted price through  NFLSundayTicket.TV U.

Steelers vs. Seahawks: Why it matters

Though they have both made Super Bowl appearances in recent memory, these teams look like they are currently a long way from the Lombardi Trophy.

The Steelers and Seahawks posted decent records last season (10-6 and 9-6-1 respectively) and many observers called for both teams to take a step forward this year. That step didn’t come in Week 1. It wasn’t that long ago that these defenses were cutting edge, but last week, they each looked beatable and, perhaps worse, vanilla.

Roethlisberger and Wilson were MVP material in the not-so-distant pass. As new quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson come into their own, these two risk being little more than veteran mediocrities if their mediocre play continues.

No, it isn’t time to sound the alarm in Seattle or Pittsburgh, but if either squad piles a few more losses onto their record, fans and front offices in both cities will be asking if it is time for a change.

But for now, each team’s goal is to put a W on their record and return to something closer to their former selves.
