DoorDash officially launched in June of 2013 after initially dropping months earlier as PaloAltoDelivery.com. The premise of the application was simple: any restaurant that signed up with the platform could offer delivery by connecting paying customers with drivers who were willing to pick up meals and bring them straight to the customer.

Although there were several applications that ordered similar services like Seamless, Grubhub, and Uber Eats, DoorDash quickly became the leading food delivery application, logging in some 32 million active users as of 2022.

The application just doesn’t help only feed a wide customer base, however, but also employs some 2 million Dashers delivering meals from approximately 450,000 different merchants. A large number of these Dashers and customers alike post about the deliveries they make or receive on a daily basis, leading to viral storytimes, fumbled orders, best earning practices, and other tips, tricks, promotions, and misadventures—all directly linked to the platform.
