Insatiable Netflix Show Backlash

The first trailer for the Netflix newest show, Insatiable, dropped Thursday and people are not happy about the premise, message, and just about everything involved in the short clip.

Insatiable is the tale of a young high school girl who is mercilessly bullied by classmates about her weight. One fateful night, “Fatty Patty” takes a punch to the face outside a convenience store; spends the summer with her jaw wired shut; loses a ton of weight; and gets her hair, makeup, and clothing updated to show up on the first day of school looking like a knockout.

And from there, the story and trailer manage to get worse. Yes, worse than seeing a teenage girl getting punched in the face.

Fat suits, eating-disorder jokes, exacting revenge by possibly lighting another human on fire, Insatiable seems to have it all. People on Twitter are having none of it.

In case you’re curious about the creators of the show, surprise, women weren’t involved. Yet Alyssa Milano, one of the stars of Insatiable, is already defending the new Netflix show.

“We are not shaming Patty,” Milano tweeted to an angry fan. “We are addressing (through comedy) the damage that occurs from fat shaming. I hope that clears it up.”

When the people involved are defending a show that hasn’t aired yet, that’s not a good sign.
