After being glued to our computers and phones for so long, the best thing any of us can do today is give it a break. Go do something that soothes your soul or lifts your spirits.

If you find yourself in need of that today, we’re right there with you. Hopefully, some of these simple options help you feel more at ease.

1) Color.

Coloring has been popular for adults for a while now, so there’s no better time to take to your books and colored pencils. If filling in peaceful photos isn’t doing it for you, try an off-the-wall choice like Memos to Shitty People. Color outside the lines as much as you please.

2) Work on a puzzle.

If you haven’t worked on a puzzle since you’ve been a kid, now might be a good time to remember how relaxing it is to lose yourself in one. Van Gogh’s Starry Night brings feelings of peace, but if it’s not your style, there are tons of others to choose from (and even some crude options!).

3) Practice guided meditation.

If your brain feels like it’s spinning out of control, taking the time to do a guided meditation may help. Proven to reduce stress, rebuild grey matter in the brain, and reduce the size of the amygdala (the “fight or flight” part of our minds), a few minutes dedicated to meditation can significantly soothe frayed spirits.

4) Play a meditative video game.

If you aren’t familiar with Journey, the award-winning adventure title from thatgamecompany, this would be a wonderful time to discover it. In addition to being visually stunning, the game’s message and depth are far bigger than any election could ever hope to be, and the score from composer Austin Wintory is simply blissful.

5) Try some yoga.

A centering experience for body and mind, yoga will focus your energy and help you to reflect on kindness to yourself and to others. Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never tried it. Of all the things in the world you could learn, yoga is one of the most forgiving … and the most beneficial.
