Your 'quarantine routine' probably doesn't look like this.

With many people in America finally starting to self-isolate and stay home while we try to get the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic under control, people who are accustomed to working a nine-to-five, going to school, or having an otherwise fairly well-structured day-to-day life are finding themselves at a loss for how to handle this huge change.

Some folks are coming up with routines to help themselves feel normal, while others are allowing themselves to sink into a much more relaxed reality for the time being. It all comes down to what works best for each individual in terms of handling responsibilities and managing mental health.

The Daily Dot is committed to filtering the noise every day as COVID-19 seizes the internet’s attention worldwide. We bring you stories on everything related to the viral pandemic, from the state response to social media fallout, and all the technical flubsemerging social trends, and disinformation in between. READ MORE ->

One woman on Twitter opted for scheduling how she spends her time decided to share her “Quarantine Routine” with the world, and it quickly went viral.

“This is just a general guide for myself based on my goals & what works for me!” Twitter user @plntbasedcutie wrote on March 17. “I’m allowing a lot [of] flexibility with myself & not pressuring myself to complete everything. This is just to give me structure & a sense of control & stability.”

There’s nothing too out of the ordinary on her schedule, which includes items like “get dressed,” “do homework/study,” and “chores” during specific timeslots in her day, which starts at 7am and ends at 10pm. It isn’t scheduled down to the minute and seems to be, like she said, just a general guide for her to maintain normality in these bizarre times.

But with everyone having cabin fever, the internet did what the internet does best and turned her schedule into a pretty hilarious quarantine routine meme.

“My quarantine routine is very simple. i wake up and go insane,” Twitter user @saintcignatius wrote.

Most of the jokes play off the idea that many of us are just trying to cope with panic and isolation and don’t have the energy to come up with any sort of structure.

“My Quarantine Routine. I just wanted to share what works for me. This is just to give me structure and a sense of stability,” Twitter user @KevinFarzad quipped. “9 am – 2 am: wake up & stare at my phone.”

But some people jumped outside of the box (metaphorically—stay inside) and came up with some clever additions.

“10am: wake in the morning feeling like p Diddy. 12pm: grab my glasses. get out the door. hit this city. also 12pm: brush my teeth w a bottle of jack. 12pm-10am: don’t stop make it pop dj blow my speakers up,” Twitter user @INDIEWASHERE joked, riffing on Ke$ha’s 2009 banger “Tik Tok.”

The original poster seems to be taking it all in stride, noting that a schedule isn’t the right approach for everyone.

“Be kind to yourselves & remember that simply resting is enough!!” she wrote in a follow-up tweet. “We’re all doing our best & that looks different for everyone.”

So do whatever works best for you, just as long as you stay inside and remember to wash your hands! Like, a lot. Wash your hands, a lot. Stay inside and wash your hands. That’s all you have to do.
