President Donald Trump will be seeking a new chief of staff soon, and people online are speculating about who might be his choice to take over for John Kelly after he leaves at the end of the year.

For a while, it appeared that Nick Ayers, the chief of staff for Vice President Mike Pence, would take the job. However, he squashed those rumors on Sunday with a tweet.

The president also addressed the rumors on Twitter on Sunday night.

“I am in the process of interviewing some really great people for the position of White House Chief of Staff. Fake News has been saying with certainty it was Nick Ayers, a spectacular person who will always be with our #MAGA agenda. I will be making a decision soon!” he wrote.

That left the field of candidates wide open. Some reports have suggested that Mick Mulvaney, Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin, and Robert Lighthizer are also in the running to replace Kelly.

There was even some speculation that Randy Levine, the president of the New York Yankees, was being considered.

However, Twitter decided to speculate about (perhaps less probable) candidates. Some were… out of left field.

Obviously Gritty made its way into the running.

And some of the more popular news items of the day were also floated out there.

Our money is on Gritty.
