The curtain has been lifted on Reddit’s most popular forums.

Those sections receive hundreds of thousands of unique visitors and several million pageviews every day, a dump of traffic stats revealed.

Redditor GuitarFreak027 released the data to r/theoryofreddit early Friday morning. The stats comes from eight subreddits where GuitarFreak027 serves as moderator, including five of Reddit’s defaults—the site’s largest sections, which user subscribe to automatically when they join the site.

That special default status confers monstrous traffic.

Reddit’s busiest subreddit, r/funny, sees an average of 600,000 unique visitors and 6.5 million pageviews a day. That means for every trip to r/funny, each user visits 10 pages within the subreddit itself. As a whole, Reddit boasts more than 35 million unique visitors and about 3 billion pageviews every month.

Clearly, redditors are an obsessive bunch.

Ponder these stats for a moment:

  • Default subreddits, including r/pics, r/funny, and r/politics, gobble up about 5,000 new subscribers every day. That’s 35,000 a week.

  • r/pics, Reddit’s second most popular subreddit, sees an average of 580,000 visitors and 3.2 million pageviews a day.

  • Reddit’s rage comic subreddit, r/fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu, gets an average of 113,000 unique visitors every day and more than 740,000 pageviews.

  • On June 8, r/politics saw a huge spike in traffic, with pageviews jumping from about 440,000 on June 7 to 1.7 million. A similar bump came on June 28, when the Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act, but that only brought in about 800,000 pageviews, or twice the average. What was the mysterious June 8 event? Wild rumors of a radiation disaster in the U.S. Midwest.

  • On its busiest day last month, r/funny received nearly 9 million pageviews.

Subreddits are user-created and managed. In the Reddit world, the forums are roughly equivalent to kingdoms, controlled by their creators and a group of volunteer moderators. Subreddit traffic data is private and only viewable by moderators and the site’s paid staff.

Reddit frequently releases sitewide data, but individual subreddit traffic is usually only revealed only on the whims of moderators.
