It’s the end of August, and on top of a pandemic we’re dealing with bungled school reopenings, ongoing police violence against unarmed Black men and women, election fraud, a horrific lack of leadership, and nonstop Karen videos. It’s enough to make anyone check out.

The “Mentally I’m here” meme is a visual representation of where we are right now. The meme started spreading more widely on Twitter last week, as people stated “Mentally I’m here,” followed by an image of their safe space (or bad place). That includes quite a few scenes from SpongeBob SquarePants, and other sea-related images.

Not everyone went to their mind-beach. Others reverted back to childhood.

Others picked truly cursed images to convey these uncertain times.

We’ve all changed, bro.
