The Fallout countdown has begun

This must be the Fallout 4 reveal everyone and their grandmother have been waiting years for.

Fallout 3 begins with “Please stand by,” a nod to a 1950s-era television screen when the signal was out. The image is inexorably married to memories of the game.

A clock on the Bethesda Softworks website set against the same backdrop is ticking down to Wednesday morning. Fallout fans are now standing by for what is either some magnificent trolling by Bethesda, or the reveal of Fallout 4.

The Fallout 4 announcement was expected at Bethesda’s E3 Showcase scheduled for June 14, two days before E3 officially begins. Could the clock indicate a different plan? If Bethesda wants to make press coverage of Fallout 4 from the show more about elements of the game, versus “Fallout 4 is a thing that exists,” a reveal now makes sense.

We will find out what the deal is, and attempt to discern Bethesda’s motivations, Wednesday at 9am ET. Given the excitement, people on the moon are going to hear about whatever Bethesda reveals.
