It's unsettling.

Look.

There is nothing wrong with cruising down the road to Taylor Swift. When I lived in San Francisco, it was right around when her eponymous debut album came out, and I would fly down 280 and belt out the lyrics to “Picture to Burn.”

Anyone who hasn’t hasn’t lived.

So I gotta say, I’m feeling Donald Trump here in this video from 2014, where he and Barron cruise to “Blank Space.”

Buttt… there’s just something off about it.

What should be an intimately relatable clip isn’t. It feels so utterly foreign because the video is devoid of anything even remotely resembling emotion. That song is a burner, and yet, there is Trump, monotonously taking it in—or completely tuning it out—like he’s an android who knows human people are supposed to love Taylor Swift, but the why of that passionate connection remains just beyond his comprehension.

It’s not natural.

Also, Trump’s wife, Melania (now the first lady of the United States) is filming from the back, and that song is about killing the male significant others in your life, so maybe she is not feeling their marriage.
