It’s a clarification to an interview he did last month that got fans talking.
Warning: This story contains spoilers for Game of Thrones.
Is Ned Stark Jon Snow’s father? Well, Sean Bean, who played Ned on Game of Thrones in season 1, certainly doesn’t think so.
Bean did an AMA on Reddit Tuesday to promote his new show Legends. While he did get to talk about the show he described as “a fun show that will get you through the rest of the summer until Game of Thrones comes back,” he also got asked about his affinity for dying on-screen all the time and getting confused for Mr. Bean.
But what many Game of Thrones fans were more interested in were his thoughts on Jon Snow’s parents.
Just last month he caused an uproar after he told Vulture that he was “obviously not Jon Snow’s father,” with many claiming that the popular R+L=J theory, in which Jon is not Ned Stark’s son, but rather the son of his sister Lyanna and Rhaegar Targaryen, was confirmed.
Although Bean read the books after he was cast as Ned Stark, people weren’t sure if his statement was an opinion or based on prior knowledge.
That was cleared up when he answered one redditor’s question about his tendency to hint about Jon’s parentage in interviews.
He restated that opinion less than a minute later and even made a joke about it.
There you have it. While Bean is strong in his belief about Jon Snow, he’s just as clueless as to what George R.R. Martin is planning as the rest of us.
Don’t care about the GOT stuff? That’s OK. Bean also has a great Nic Cage story:
