The Trump administration claims to be at war with the media, so now the media is fighting back.
MSNBC’s Morning Joe, a program President Donald Trump reportedly watches, is refusing to book White House counselor Kellyanne Conway because, as co-host Mika Brzezinski put it, she consistently spouts “fake news.”
“We know for a fact, she tries to book herself on this show—I won’t do it because I don’t believe in fake news or information that’s not true,” said Brzezinski. “And every time I’ve ever seen her on television, something’s askew, off, or incorrect.”
The show’s host likewise attacked her role within the White House.
“I don’t even think she’s saying things she knows to be untrue, she’s just saying things just to get in front of a TV set and prove her relevance because behind the scenes, she’s not in these meetings,” co-host Joe Scarborough said. “She’s not credible anymore.”
The segment was sparked by Conway’s recent appearance on NBC’s Today show, in which she attempted to twist the details surrounding the resignation of Michael Flynn as Trump’s national security adviser. Conway told host Matt Lauer that the situation with Flynn, who misled Vice President Mike Pence about the nature of a pre-inauguration call with Russia’s ambassador, had become “unsustainable” over a period of time, while the White House actually knew for a month that Flynn had not told the whole truth about the call.
“Kellyanne, that makes no sense!” Lauer said. “Last month, the Justice Department warned the White House that General Flynn misled them. And that as a result he was vulnerable to blackmail and at that moment he still had the complete trust of the president?”
Conway refused to directly answer the question—and, if other shows follow Morning Joe‘s lead, it may be one of the last few she receives from the press.
