The days of Joe Biden memes circa 2016-2018 reminded everyone of the Obama-Biden bromance and Biden’s love of ice cream. Even though the bromance moments haven’t reappeared for some time, the former vice president’s famous sweet tooth has made it into the news once again.
A tweet went viral for showing that Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings reveal Biden’s campaign has spent thousands on Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. Upon searching through FEC filings, the Daily Dot found the campaign to have spent almost $10,000 since 2019, with the purchases being labeled as “donor gifts.”
Some on Twitter have jokingly shared the information, even calling it “ice cream-gate,” after noticing its the same brand House Speaker Nancy Pelosi favors.
Others just saw it as a sign of the campaign supporting local businesses or saw no problem with the campaign’s ice cream obsession. Jeni’s has over 40 locations nationwide, with its headquarters in Ohio.
Biden has visited Jeni’s Ohio shop in the past, POLITICO reports. Last year, founder Jeni Britton Bauer posted to her Instagram that she supported Biden’s 2020 pursuit for president. Her post featured a photo of the two from 2016.
“I look up to you Joe,” Bauer wrote in her post. “I believe in you. I have seen your genuine curiosity and love for people up close, and it’s otherworldly.”
