Nowadays, contending with advertisements on social media is an expected part of the user experience. But recently, one TikToker shared a hack to get rid of Pinterest adsâfor good. TikToker @hey.its_em shared her secret to getting rid of mobile Pinterest ads that involved a simple hold-and-click method on the ad pop-up, repeated five times. After the fifth time and a homepage refresh, the ads were gone. For thousands, the method workedâleading to awe and widespread appreciation for the TikTok influencer and her effective hack.

On April 12, 2025, TikTok user Emily Guzman, whose handle is @hey.its_em, shared a short video called âbye bye Pinterest Ads!â In the video, Guzman explained a way to get rid of all Pinterest ads when using oneâs account. The method had three simple steps, and can only be used on the smartphone app version of Pinterest, not the desktop version.

How to remove ads from the Pinterest app in 3 simple steps
Step 1: When you see an ad, click on it and hold down. A little eyeball with a slash will appear.
Step 2: Still holding down on the ad, click on the eyeball with the slash. When you do, a menu will appear. The options on the menu will ask why you want to âhide this pin.â Select any of the reasons in the menu.
Step 3: Repeat this process five times using five different ads on your home page. Then, refresh your homepage, which should now be ad-free.
Users say this Pinterest trick is a game-changer
Guzmanâs video garnered 2.4 million views, nearly 480,000 likes and nearly 12,000 comments, mostly from Pinterest users who deeply appreciated the information the creator shared. âYou just made Pinterest 50000x better, thank you,â read one comment. âAlmost shed a tear just now,â read another. âYou deserve everything good in life,â read still another comment.
âYou just got added to my list of white women I donât play about. Right next to Anne Hathaway babes,â another comment gushed.

Still other comments were wary of the hack, and wondered if Pinterest might found out or fix the loophole. âTheyâre gonna patch this so fast,â one comment read. âPray they donât fix this hack,â read another. âBlock Pinterest so they canât find out,â read another (to which the creator replied: âBLOCKED.â)

âTheyâre ruining this app with adsâ
Founded in 2010, five years later Pinterest began selling ads on the site to marketers to compete with Google, X, and Facebook.
Years after their initial ad strategy began, Pinterest users saw ads ramp up in their feeds, and have been complaining about the excess of ads on the social media and idea-sharing site ever since. âIâve been using for a decade and noticed today how intense the ad ratio is. Itâs a shame theyâre ruining this app with ads. I would pay for an ad-free experience at this point,â read one comment on Reddit.
âItâs just a giant store now. I canât find anything related to my search that is not some product for sale,â added another. Another comment simply read, âits ruined my experience.â
