The sun may have returned to Texas, but last week’s flood damage remains. The National Weather Service estimates that 37.3 trillion gallons of rain fell during the month of May, enough to cover the entire state in water eight inches deep.
Many Texans have shared photos and videos of the devastation, showing ruined homes and flooded cities. YouTube user saxrulez posted this video from a farmer’s perspective that shows the difficulties faced by people whose livestock was stranded by flood waters.
During flood conditions, people are always advised to avoid swimming or wading through murky waters because the risk of injury or infection is too high. You know these farmers must have been desperate to risk precious livestock like this, but evidently there was no other way to transport the cattle across the water.
