Google’s image search tool proves the truth of Internet rule 34: Porn exists for every subject imaginable. No exceptions.
Now, thanks to the new site pr0nindex.com, you can find out just how much porn is out there.
The tool is remarkably simple: It searches for a term in Google Images with SafeSearch turned on and off. By looking at the difference in results, the pr0n index returns the percentage that represents porn.
“It’s dead simple,” the site’s unnamed creator explains on the about page, “and hugely flawed, of course, but none of this detracts from the hilarity.”
What’s the flaw? There’s no sweatshop full of porno-obsessed Google elves urgently marking the exact number of NSFW images that pop up for every term in the English language. The index depends on an algorithm—Google’s own—for determining safe or unsafe content.
So the pr0ndindex is only as good as Google’s algorithm. And that’s actually pretty good.
