A popular conspiracy theory is tying major figures including billionaire Bill Gates and the late, convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein to the biotechnology company Moderna. But is any of it true?
The conspiracy, a paragraph that has made the rounds across social media, surfaced not long after news broke earlier this year that Moderna was developing a vaccine for coronavirus
The paragraph alleges that Gates, Epstein, infectious diseases expert Dr. Anthony Fauci, and billionaire George Soros all have secret and nefarious ties to the company.
“The vaccine that is coming… As many of you heard Moderna is in stage 3 of their vaccine testing,” the conspiracy begins. “If all goes well it’ll become federal law to get the vaccine. Here’s something many of you don’t know, guess who the first CEO of Moderna was? A Cornell graduate by the name of Anthony Fauci, who was a roommate with none other than Bill Gates.”
As noted by Snopes, the claims are far from the truth. Fauci, who is currently the Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), was never the CEO of Moderna.
Also, Fauci and Gates were never roommates and attended entirely different colleges. Fauci graduated from Cornell University Medical College in 1966 while Gates attended Harvard College during the 1970s.
“Are you paying attention? It was at Cornell that Bill Gates designed the RFID (Radio-frequency identification) and patented it under US2006257852,” the conspiracy continues. “Are you awake yet?”
Only Bill Gates did not design or patent an RFID chip. Mario Cardullo filed the first patent in 1973. The number in the paragraph, US2006257852, isn’t even tied to RFID either, but is instead for a patent related to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), possibly lifted from another conspiracy theory floating around.
“Now let’s really go down the rabbit hole. Moderna was a pharmaceutical company that started in Germany under the name IG Farben,” the conspiracy further states. “IG Farben is infamous for its mass production of Zyklon-B, the primary gas used to kill millions during the Holocaust.”
After the fall of Nazi Germany, the text continues, “IG Farben was dissolved and its assets sold off by a Nazi turned American by the name of, you guessed it, George Soros. Soros rebranded the company as Moderna.”
IG Farben was not dissolved by Soros, who was neither a Nazi or a German. Soros was only 14 years old by the time World War II ended and never controlled IG Farben.
In its final sentences, the conspiracy goes on to allege that “the primary stockholder of Moderna until his death” was none other than Epstein.
“His role in Moderna is where he made his fortune and established his connections. Let that sink in,” the text says. “Wake up people! You are being conditioned and controlled.”
Epstein was never the primary stockholder of Moderna. Epstein’s was already vastly wealthy long before Moderna was founded in 2010.
