The Biden campaign joined forces with a 15-year-old Instagram activist

A pro-Biden Instagram page launched by a 15-year-old supporter is now an official Joe Biden campaign account.

The original account, @TeamJoeBiden, passed 85,000 followers this summer as online activism took off amid the pandemic. The page is like many political infographic pages—color-coordinated and eye-catching in hopes of reposts. The young account owner is now volunteering for Biden’s Social Media and Audience Development team, according to the Verge

“We choose a Commander in Chief over a Tweeter in Chief,” one post stated with an image of Biden.

While posts about Biden are given a glossy blue-and-red treatment, the account highlights President Donald Trump in a starker fashion.

Infographic Instagram accounts boomed throughout the pandemic as a way of continuing activist efforts. Accounts like Shit You Should Care About have over 1.5 million followers.

“What we’ve seen blowing up in places both in and outside of politics is a focus on shareable content,” director of social and audience development for the Biden campaign, Sarah J. Galvez, told the Verge. “Previous to this, you would have these conversations with your friends, your colleagues, and your family in person. But as a result of COVID, we’re having these political conversations online.”

Biden’s new account now has over 94,000 followers and a verified check. It now posts under @votejoe.

It was not the only recent online move of Biden’s campaign. Last week, Biden lawn signs became available on video game Animal Crossing. The popular game from the 2000s took off during the pandemic.
