In addition to enduring a Colbert bump, The Tonight Show is taking another hit: Head writer A.D. Miles is leaving.

Miles, who starred in Wet Hot American Summer (and the Netflix reboot) before coming on board at NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon in 2009 and later The Tonight Show, said in a statement that he’s not breaking from host Jimmy Fallon completely:

Riding Jimmy Fallon’s coattails for the past eight years has given me all the confidence I need to strike out on my own and work on a movie with Jimmy Fallon.

Miles often appeared in sketches; last summer he played Barb from Stranger Things and gave voice to our rage.

Details of the animated project have not yet been revealed, but new writing blood might be one cure for America’s Fallon fatigue.
