Cute alert: meet Silky, an adorable little hamster who was given up by her owners when they had to make a move, and decided they couldn’t properly care for her anymore. She’s now living at the Oregon Humane Society.
Silky’s got a very special, unique quality. Thanks to a genetic mutation, she’s completely hairless, meaning she looks smaller and slimmer than a normal, haired hamster would. This means she has to be kept especially warm and cozy in the cold seasons.
Which brings us to the second-best thing about Silky. Namely, the egregiously adorable tiny sweater that OHS employee Selene Meija knitted for her, to keep her safe from the frigid elements. Go ahead, take a good long look at these pictures, and let your heart be melted.

Poor bald little Silky. She looks cosy in her jumper, though. https://t.co/4OeiIeYLqt

Yup, that is a certifiably adorable rodent. And, as anyone who’s ever had a loyal, loving hamster knows, they can be very affectionate creatures with those who get to know them well. And Silky looks just about the right size and shape for a little cheek-cuddling, no?
The OHS says that Silky will be going up for adoption soon, which means some lucky person or family will get to take her home and give her a life of luxury and bundled-up warmth. That won’t happen until her treatment is finished, which according to the OHS’s official website is expected to happen on Monday, Oct. 24th.

So if you live in the Portland area and you have what it takes to give Silky the life she so clearly deserves, you can keep track of when she’s up for adoption here. Even if you don’t get her, consider bringing another animal in need into your life.
