‘Tis the season to spread holiday cheer with holly, mistletoe, Christmas lights—and pineapples, apparently.

Pinterest gave way to the pineapple Christmas tree trend this year, inspiring a slew of crafty Instagram users to ditch the standard pine and take up a new holiday tradition.

As far as Christmas tree alternatives go, pineapples are rad because they’re cheap, portable, and compostable. They’re perfect for a desk at the office or a small apartment.

You can make your own pineapple Christmas tree by trimming the unsliced fruit with lights, ornaments, and even a pair of sunglasses—or just “ooh” and “ahh” at these whimsical creations instead.
