Louis C.K. can get pretty dark in his stand-up routine, and it’s no different when he’s in the middle of promoting his TV show on the late-night circuit.

He stopped by to see Jimmy Fallon on Monday and discussed what happened the last time he was supposed to see Fallon—an appearance that ended up getting canceled.

Naturally, C.K. assumed the worst and thought that Fallon had died.

Rather, Fallon’s wife had given birth to their daughter that day.

“I would be sad if you died,” C.K. later said as consolation. “I will be sad when you die.”
