In a designated smoking room inside a mall somewhere in Japan’s Gifu Prefecture, there lurks a powerful, smoke-shrouded wizard. The sorcerer has apparently been astonishing locals for some time with his power to levitate mundane objects, but now he’s been revealed to the entire internet.

(Sorry, this embed was not found.)

A cup and a burning cigarette float mysteriously through the air to cries of “sugoi!” (“great!”), but there’s no explanation for the trick in sight. Sure, maybe the cup is magnetized… but a lit cigarette? Would someone really stuff it with magnets before smoking it? Hmm.

A 22-year-old man named Felipe, the witness who caught the wizard’s shenanigans on video and posted them to Twitter, told BuzzFeed he has no idea who the man is or how he does it.

“We don’t know his name,” Felipe told BuzzFeed, “But my friends who live around the area said that they recognize him although they too don’t know his name.”

Now people all over the world are speculating about how the levitation was done. Were strings edited out of the video? Was Felipe in on the ruse? Is this old man, in his wrinkled dress shirt and black slacks, an alien?

For his part, the wizard didn’t say a word. Magicians never reveal their tricks.
