With “royal attire requested,” both the Black Panther cast and other celebrities in attendance embodied that request fully with a variety of color, print, and outfits fitting for Wakanda. Chadwick Boseman, who plays the new king of Wakanda, T’Challa, arrived in style as his car was flagged by the Dora Milaje, T’Challa’s personal guard.

The women who portray the Dora Milaje, however, stepped out of their usual uniforms for something wonderfully festive and vibrant from Lupita Nyong’o’s purple-and-gold gown to Danai Gurira’s black-and-pink dress.

“I was hoping for this,” Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter told USA Today about the premiere fashion. “All of the awards shows I was watching on TV, I was like, ‘Oh, you wait until Black Panther’ red carpet rolls around. It’s a celebration.”
