Often referred to as “fancy Walmart,” Target’s beginnings can be traced back to 1902 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where the brand was known as Goodfellow Dry Goods, which then became Dayton Dry Goods.

The success of the chain spiraled until it became the Dayon Company in 1910 and by 1962, the business opened an offshoot retail location named Target in Roseville, Minnesota. Today, Target is the seventh largest retail chain in the United States offering a wide variety of products ranging from groceries, electronics, furniture, clothing, decorations, toys, and even made-to-order Starbucks beverages.

Since it’s one of the largest-owned American private employers in the United States with a $60+ billion market cap as of 2023, the store serves a massive number of customers and provides jobs for approximately 440,000 people. As a result, numerous folks have shared their opinions online of what it’s like to work and shop at Target, leading to a bevy of saucy social media stories.
