Paramount has released the first five minutes of Ghost in the Shell, and the scene is full of callbacks to the anime.
This clip introduces the cyberpunk world of Ghost in the Shell, with Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg cop known as the Major. She’s even wearing her “invisible” thermoptic suit, an iconic aspect of the anime. (Apparently, it was important to retain classic canon elements like the one female character wearing a spray-on catsuit while fighting dozens of fully clothed men. Isn’t that always the way?)

Paramount also released another memorable moment inspired by the anime: the water fight scene. It’s a fairly direct remake, showcasing the Major’s thermoptic suit once again.
Ghost in the Shell comes out on March 31.
