Want to read Reddit but don’t have the time? Our daily Reddit Digest highlights the most interesting or important discussions from around the social news site—every morning.

  • Do lobsters feel pain when they are boiled alive? (/r/askscience)

  • Ever wonder what it’s like to have your head get run over by a truck? You’re in luck! Redditor tw0bears has all the wonderful details. The lesson: If you ride a motorcycle, wear a helmet. It’s useful for you crash into the pavement and also when trucks run over your head. (/r/IAmA)

  • This redditor’s grandmother was in the Hitler Youth. Should he translate her diaries from the time? “Yes,” Reddit says. And also corrects him: Hitler Youth was for boys. The League of German Girls was for girls. (/r/AskReddit)

  • Here’s a decent suggestion for any travelers who worry about losing their camera: take a photograph of your contact information (preferably an email and not a home address, to avoid stalkers and such). The idea was spawned by this popular r/pics post over the weekend: “My father is a taxi-driver in Singapore. And he found this camera in his taxi …” (/r/YouShouldKnow)

  • It’s a World War II-themed Reddit Digest. Redditor andrewsj1 has a WWII photograph of his great grandfather but he doesn’t know where it was taken. Can Reddit help? Within two hours, pujus finds the location on Google streetview. How’d he do it? Someone had mentioned that the background looked like the Hotel Exedra in Rome, so pujus “looked it up on Google Maps and found poles nearby.” A Sherlock for modern times, clearly. (/r/bestof)

  • Why can’t we remember more things that we read on Reddit? “If it is a completely random fact, with no emotional or intellectual connection to you, that you don’t actively try to remember, you will likely forget it,” Elijahjc writes. “However, if you actively try to remember it (called “Rehearsal”, takes place in your Working Memory), then you’ll have a better likelihood of recall. The more Rehearsal, the better.” Or to put it another way: Rehearse your Reddit if it you want to remember your Reddit. (/r/askscience)
