Imagine just sitting around doing not much of anything and having people bring a whole bunch of money to you.

That’s essentially what’s happening to someone who owns a laundry detergent vending machine at a laundromat.

He posted a video about the situation on Oct. 13, which has gotten nearly 2 million views and over 170,000 likes since.

The video from the Laundromat Money TikTok account (@laundromatmoney) revealed that selling little boxes of detergent out of a vending machine can be a fantastic passive income source if you can make it happen.

The TikToker starts by explaining that the soap vending machine in the video is part of his domain, noting, “Today I’m going to restock it and see how much money I made in the past two weeks.”

He goes on to explain, “I buy the little boxes online for about 60 cents each and sell them for $1.25.”

“I buy these boxes online from a website called Cleaner Supply because they offer free shipping and deliver directly to my laundromat,” he continues.

In the video, he shows himself extracting quarters from the machine, many of which coalesce around the Tide side, as that’s his best seller. The machine brought in about $375 worth of quarters for about two weeks of sales.

“I’m sure I could charge a lot more for these boxes, and people would still buy them, but I’m currently making double my money,” he says. “So that’s good enough for now.”

Several commenters complimented him for carrying one particular brand, which he said he keeps for people with sensitive skin and eczema despite being his worst seller by far.

“As a person with sensitive skin and who can only use free and clear detergent, I appreciate that you keep the All stocked,” one commenter said.

“Thank you for carrying the All Free and Clear,” another responded. “That’s all I can use.”

“As soon someone with sensitive skin, bless your heart,” someone else chimed in. “Anything with fragrances causes me immense pain.”

Another commenter brought in a whole different issue.

“I collect quarters and man,” someone said, “what I wouldn’t give to be able to go through these quarters!!”

“Do you take all the quarters to the bank?” one wondered. “Do you have to put them in sleeves first?”

“Do you use that money as coins, or is there a process to exchange big amounts of coins for bills?” someone else wondered.

“All those quarters keep cycling through the change machines,” another person explained. “He gets cash from those machines.”
