Trump Mocked After Lauding North Korea's Real Estate Potential

In the historic meeting between the United States and North Korea, President Donald Trump turned to a subject he is well versed in: real estate.

Minutes after lauding the agreement signed by the two countries that aims to denuclearize the Korean peninsula, Trump said North Korea has potential for building condos, hotels, and other real estate properties along its “great” beaches.

The president said he told North Korean leader Kim Jung-un about the country’s real estate potential while showing him a video of what the “highest level of future development” would look like in the country.

“They have great beaches, you see that whenever they are exploding their cannons into the ocean, right?” he said during the press conference. “I said ‘boy, look at that view. Wouldn’t that make a great condo behind–’ I explained, I said ‘ya know instead of doing that, you could have the best hotels in the world right there.’ Think of it from a real estate perspective. You have South Korea, you have China, and they own the land in the middle. How bad is that, right? It’s great.”

The president said the North Korean leader looked at the video and “really enjoyed it.”

Naturally, Twitter found Trump’s talk about North Korean real estate odd considering the high-stakes nature of the brief summit between the two countries. Some even jokingly wondered if there would be a Trump Tower popping up in the country in the future.

It’s impossible to tell what the future will hold in North Korea, but for now at least, it’s difficult there being a room with a view.
