White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders will leave President Donald Trump’s administration by the end of this month, he announced Thursday.
Sanders took over for former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
Trump made the announcement in a tweet on Thursday afternoon. Sanders served in the White House for more than two years.
In the tweets, Trump said he hopes his soon-to-be former press secretary runs to become governor of Arkansas.
“After 3 1/2 years, our wonderful Sarah Huckabee Sanders will be leaving the White House at the end of the month and going home to the Great State of Arkansas….” Trump wrote in a series of tweets. “….She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas – she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!”

The White House’s, and Sanders’, relationship with the press reached a flashpoint shortly after the 2018 midterms when the White House announced that CNN reporter Jim Acosta would have his press pass revoked, contending (in a video that appeared to be doctored), that he placed his hands on an intern.
Sanders has also not held a White House press briefing in months.
Trump did not name who would be succeeding Sanders as White House press secretary. Their tenure would begin just as he is gearing up his 2020 reelection efforts.
