President Donald Trump said former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, who was accused of sexual misconduct with a minor, “cannot win” in 2020 but also noted that he has “nothing” against him.

Trump weighed in on a possible do-over Senate run from Moore, who lost to Democrat Doug Jones in a special election after numerous accusations of sexual misconduct came up against him in 2017.

The president insisted that Republicans needed to win the Senate seat back and that Moore “cannot win” the seat.

“Republicans cannot allow themselves to again lose the Senate seat in the Great State of Alabama. This time it will be for Six Years, not just Two. I have NOTHING against Roy Moore, and unlike many other Republican leaders, wanted him to win. But he didn’t, and probably won’t…..” the president wrote in a series of tweets on Wednesday morning. “…If Alabama does not elect a Republican to the Senate in 2020, many of the incredible gains that we have made during my Presidency may be lost, including our Pro-Life victories. Roy Moore cannot win, and the consequences will be devastating….Judges and Supreme Court Justices!”

Trump pushed for Moore despite the allegations made against him in the run-up to the special election. The president also defended him then.

The president’s tweets about Moore come a day after his son, Donald Trump Jr., replied to a tweet from Moore where he said he would defeat Jones in 2020 “if I run.”

Trump Jr. didn’t share that sentiment, telling Moore it was “time to ride off into the sunset.”

“You mean like last time? You’re literally the only candidate who could lose a GOP seat in pro-Trump, pro-USA ALABAMA. Running for office should never become a business model. If you actually care about #MAGA more than your own ego, it’s time to ride off into the sunset, Judge,” Trump Jr. wrote on Tuesday evening.
