The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on a resolution condemning President Donald Trump’s tweets where he told a group of Democratic congresswomen born in America to “go back” to their home countries if they were unhappy with America.
Despite this, Trump continued to quadruple-down on his comments in a series of tweets on Tuesday morning.
The original tweets, and subsequent ones, have generated robust criticism of the president, and were widely hailed as racist.
However, Trump has defended himself amid that criticism of his original tweets—directed at Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.). On Monday evening, the congresswomen held a press conference condemning the president.
The pushback to Trump’s tweets is expected to be formalized on Tuesday, with a resolution condemning his tweets being put up for a vote in the House.
On Monday night, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called his remarks “xenophobic” and called on lawmakers from both parties to support it. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) announced on Twitter that the resolution is scheduled to have a vote on Tuesday.

The resolution is sponsored by Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-N.J.) and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).
In it, it says the House of Representatives strongly “condemns President Donald Trump’s racist comments that have legitimized and increased fear and hatred of new Americans and people of color by saying that our fellow Americans who are immigrants, and those who may look to the President like immigrants, should ‘go back’ to other countries, by referring to immigrants and asylum seekers as ‘’invaders,’ and by saying that Members of Congress who are immigrants (or those of our colleagues who are wrongly assumed to be immigrants) do not belong in Congress or in the United States of America.”
On Tuesday morning, Trump continued to defend himself, tweeting that the House should vote to “rebuke the filthy and hate laced things they have said” about him and declared his tweets “NOT Racist.”
Those Tweets were NOT Racist. I don’t have a Racist bone in my body! The so-called vote to be taken is a Democrat con game. Republicans should not show “weakness” and fall into their trap. This should be a vote on the filthy language, statements and lies told by the Democrat…..
