If it seemed like the battery life on your iPhone 6s or 6s Plus has varied wildly, Apple has good news and bad news for you. The good news is that you aren’t going crazy—the battery meter on the devices has been malfunctioning. The bad news is that it’s a problem that will continue to afflict your iPhone until Apple gets around to fixing it.
A new support document posted by the Cupertino, California, company acknowledges an issue in displaying battery data. According to the document, the issue appears when users change time zones—when traveling or doing it manually to bypass time limits in freemium games.
For now, Apple has offered up the most basic of workarounds for the problem: restart the device. Odds are most people didn’t need a support page for that advice. Apple also suggests going to the Settings menu and making sure the “Set Automatically” option is selected for date and time.
Reports from users mentioning the battery issue have been cropping up almost since launch day. People who were hit with the issue came up with the same fix Apple has presented—restart the device—though one noted that “eventually it will get stuck again.”
Similar complaints have appeared intermittently in the /r/iPhone subreddit on Reddit. Users again provide very similar advice to the official Apple support document. One user did mention they were able to get their device replaced at the Apple Store after experiencing the issue.
On the support page created Jan. 13, Apple states it “is aware of this issue and is investigating the cause and a solution.”
