A few months ago a Studio Ghibli producer revealed that Hayao Miyazaki was once again coming out of retirement to make a feature film based off his animated short Kemushi no Boro (Boro the Caterpillar). Unfortunately, fans will have to wait even longer to see it than originally thought.
The announcement came over the weekend from Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki. Speaking at Niconico Chōkaigi, he revealed that the film would not be completed for a proposed 2019 release date. Although Miyazaki has been working on the film for months, it’s taking longer to make than anticipated. According to Huffington Post Japan, Miyazaki has finished 20 minutes of storyboard for the film so far.

Suzuki also remained vague on the film’s title, simply stating, “I can’t tell you.”
While there’s no new tentative release date for the feature film version of Kemushi no Boro, the short film will debut at the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo this July. Fans will likely be bummed about the date change, but getting another movie from the master animator is worth any amount of waiting.
