Who is hated more by the Internet: the TLC reality show Toddlers and Tiaras or teenage YouTubers?
If you answered the latter, be prepared to change your tune. Teens React to Toddlers and Tiaras, the latest Teens React episode courtesy of YouTube moguls The Fine Brothers, just might restore your faith in the younger generation.
TLC’s reality show Toddlers and Tiaras, which is about toddler beauty queens and their mothers, has frequently been described with the words “WTF.” Since the show began in 2009, it has documented what some critics call the worst that America has to offer.
Even so, Toddlers and Tiaras was generally ignored by the Internet masses—until January, when in its 5th season, producers introduced Alana Holler, aka “Honey Boo Boo Child,” a six-year old from McIntyre, Georgia.
The Internet promptly exploded with memes, animated gifs, remixes, and most recently, a YouTube parody of what Honey Boo Boo Child would be like twenty-five years from now.
While Holler’s mom defends herself and parenting choices, to various media outlets, Benny and Rafi Fine, of the Fine Brothers, had their teen cast weigh in on some footage of her daughter in their newest episode of Teens React.
At just over seven-minutes long, the teens make astounding observations, one of which is these pageants might ruin the toddler’s life.
The teens express concerns over bulimia and body image, the amount of makeup and outfits the child is wearing (one teen says she can’t leave the house dressed like Holler), and ask if the parents were vicariously living through their children.
“There is something wrong with this” says sixteen year old Adam, clearly disturbed.
It looks like we’re not doomed after all—at least when it comes to teenagers. Toddlers? Now that may be a different story.
