Following the release of the final Harry Potter movie, the Daily Dot reported on the post-Potter depression descending on the fan base.

Shane Dawson, a YouTube star known for his comedy (and his “Shannanay” character – where he dresses in drag), recently made a parody of this affliction plaguing Potter fans.

Done to the tune of Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper”, Dawson’s “Harry Potter’s Over” has been viewed more than 600,000 in 24 hours.

(be warned, video features imagery and vocabulary not for the easily offended)

With lyrics like “nerds are crying, dorks are dying” and “It’s over. Get a life. Go outside” intertwined with scenes of a girl putting a gun to her head and Dawson setting Potter books on fire, it’s no wonder his parody has enraged some Harry Potter fans.

Dawson fans have been quick to defend him; case in point, this top comment by 15AprilG :

“I am done trying to convince people that this was just comedy!!! SO FOR THE LAST TIME Do not be offended Its comedy Its Shannanay , her comments are supposed to be offensive! Thats who she is! (Well who her character is) It was intended to be funny SO LIGHTEN UP He wasnt really calling anybody losers or nerds. But if you dislike this or unsubscribe this, youre just mad because its over and you’re obsessed Calm down, its just ONE video . #getalife”

Shane Dawson is nominated for this year’s Web Star in Fox’s Teen Choice Awards, and won the category last year. In his three year YouTube career, Dawson’s videos have been viewed more than 560,000 times, and he’s collected more than 2 million subscribers.

Dawson closes his video by saying it was very fun video to make, and hopefully some Harry Potter fans laughed – which ultimately did. Writes shamPOWohsnap:

“I HAVE NO PROBLEM! Just because I overly like Harry Potter doesn’t mean I need help*nervous giggle*. I can get into any other book at any time! Pssshhh… Harry Potter….what? I loved this video :]”
