Writer and producer Brad Falchuk is the most recent addition to Netflix’s growing roster of powerhouse producers and creators, which now includes Ryan Murphy, Shonda Rhimes, and Kenya Barris. While people tend to credit American Horror Story, Pose, Glee, and 9-1-1 to the more famous director, writer, and producer Murphy, Falchuk co-created these hit shows with him.

“Falchuk and his Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision banner have signed an overall deal with the streamer, which sources say is for four years and worth eight figures,” Variety reports.

Falchuk is set to depart his longtime studio 20th Century Fox Television, where he’s signed until June 1, notes Variety. He follows in the footsteps of Murphy, who first exited Fox for the streaming service last year to the tune of a $300 million multi-year deal. His tenure with Netflix started in July.

According to the Wrap, Falchuk is the first producer to leave 20th Century Fox TV since it was officially acquired by Disney last week. However, like Murphy, he will remain an executive producer on Fox’s 9-1-1 and FX’s Pose, American Horror Story, and American Crime Story despite exiting the studio.

The long-time collaborators already have a project in the works with Netflix and still produced by 20th TV: the upcoming series The Politician, set for a September release. Incidentally, the political satire stars Falchuk’s wife, Gwyneth Paltrow, along with Ben Platt, Jessica Lange, Zoey Deutch, as well as guest stars Bette Midler and Judith Light.

Meanwhile, sources told the Hollywood Reporter that Falchuk “plans to grow his banner into a larger production company, complete with his own executives.” Perhaps this also means he can finally move out of Murphy’s shadow.

“During my first meeting with Netflix, they told me—just bring us stories you’re passionate about and we will find a way to help you tell them. That level of support and freedom is inspiring to me,” Falchuk was quoted as saying on Deadline.

It seems Netflix has been nothing short of empowering. “As a storyteller, Brad is a tastemaker and trailblazer, and he is a writer/director with a true knack for piercing the cultural zeitgeist. There is no limit to what Brad can accomplish with Netflix as his new home,” Cindy Holland, VP of original content at Netflix, told Deadline.

Whether with Murphy or on his own, Falchuk’s lucrative deal with Netflix is pegged to lure more subscribers with great original content to rival increasingly aggressive streaming competitors that now include Apple—which just signed with such huge players as Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, and JJ Abrams, among others.
