The first ‘Tomb Raider’ trailer channels the game—and that’s a very good thing

It looks just like the games.

The first trailer for Alicia Vikander’s Tomb Raider is here, and you’ll be happy to hear it looks exactly like Tomb Raider. No edgy reboot changes, no (apparent) hidden meaning—just cool action sequences, performed by Lara Croft in a more sensible outfit than the Angelina Jolie movies.

The movie looks like it takes inspiration from recent Tomb Raider games, using Lara Croft’s wealthy father as the motivation for her first big tomb-raiding mission. She also uses a bow and arrow; her staple weapon in the later games.

There’s something relaxing about Tomb Raider‘s straightforwardness. If you want to see Alicia Vikander raid some tombs, this film will fulfill your desires. Otherwise, give it a miss. It’s as simple as that.

Tomb Raider is due out in March 2018.
