Reddit novelty account has work stolen by 9gag

Reddit novelty account shitty_watercolour and comedian Rob Delaney have more in common than you think.

The popular novelty account, which turns photos and comments into beautiful works of watercolor art, has just had one of his paintings stolen by a user of the 9gag imageboard.

The 9gag post features an original shitty_watercolour painting and has collected more than 20,000 views.

“With 159 tweets and 3211 facebook likes this is probably the most popular thing I’ve ever had and it sucks for me that the vast majority of people will only see the painting along with 9gag’s watermark,” wrote shitty_watercolour on Reddit, where the community rallied in his support. “I agree that it’s not worth making a fuss over; I understand that 9gag is a website that people submit things to and they can’t be responsible for what people submit, but I’d like them to credit me or remove it.”

Shitty_watercolour submitted a complaint to 9gag late Monday and has yet to hear back. But from the looks of it, when you click the image on 9gag, you can then be directed to shitty_watercolour’s personal site.

About a month and a half ago, Delaney had one of his tweets stolen by the official 9gag Twitter account. The tweet has since been deleted from @9gag’s account.
