There are quite a few space-themed games on the horizon. This one, however, stood out among those showcased last month at PAX South in San Antonio.

Stellar is a new game by Dog Eat Dog Games—and one still very early in development. So early, in fact, that the game was being shown off in-engine.

It’s a space shooter that can shift the player’s dimension. You can move between third person, side view, and top-down with the click of a button. Much like the game FEZ, moving dimensions changes how you tackle the environment. For example, switching to side view will change the game into a shoot-em-up.

To give the universe a feeling of vastness, galaxies are randomly generated, so each area you tackle will be different from the last.

There were also some pretty cool art cues. For instance, your health meter oscillates to the music, and clean, flat shapes are used to represent warp speed. The art style in general is going for that clean look, similar to the game Race the Sun.

The game was posted to Kickstarter with a $30,000 goal, but a representative for Dog Eat Dog said the campaign was delayed with the intent to start it again at an unspecified later date. Meanwhile, work on the game continues.
