With terrorist groups like the Islamic State (ISIS) broadcasting abhorrent acts of violence, and unrest mounting in Ukraine, the prospect of world peace can seem like only a distant fantasy. But not all hope is lost in the strive for unity. Some battles, like the rhythmic one that recently transpired in a parking lot, serve to bring the world closer together instead of further apart.

Yes, it was the III Marine Expeditionary Force and the Republic of Korea Army that met on the asphalt that faithful day in October to duke it out, not with bullets, but with beats. After a coin toss, the ROK drumline fired the first shot, unleashing an impressive acoustic offensive. But it was the Marine drumline that truly stepped up their game, bombarding their enemies with drumming techniques so advanced they used the Korean’s drums against them.

While the battle was declared a tie, the true victor that day was world peace.
