7 holiday decorations for the ‘Star Wars’ obsessive in your life

With the holiday season well underway, it’s once again time to drag out your decorations, light your candelabras, and deck your halls—and don’t forget to use the Force while you’re at it.

Decorating is a tradition many of us repeat each year to get in the spirit of our respective holidays; but this month there’s also another important day that geeks might want to commemorate—the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Dec. 18.

There are numerous options for anyone who wants to bring the galaxy far, far away closer to their home for the holidays. Here are seven of the best:

1) R2-D2 Lighted Lawn Ornament

Everyone’s favorite little astromech droid can now help spread the holiday cheer as a life-size lighted lawn ornament. Wearing a Santa hat and shining bright with internal lights, some assembly is required to bring this R2-D2 to life. But once you’re done, you can have him greet visitors inside your home or keep a watchful eye outside. He can even stick around once the holidays are over, since the Santa hat is removable.

2) The Force Awakens snowflakes

Why wait for the snow to fall when you can create your own geeky snowflakes to make it feel more like winter? For the last few years Anthony Herrera has shared Star Wars snowflake patterns, and this year’s batch is inspired by The Force Awakens. Using the PDF patterns he provides, you can make snowflakes featuring BB-8, Finn, Rey, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Kylo Ren’s lightsaber, and a First Order stormtrooper.

3) Droidel

This is the Star Wars dreidel you’ve been looking for. Called the droidel, you can spin this R2-inspired craft to play or just use it as a decoration for Hanukkah. It’s one of many Star Wars crafts shared online from the Star Wars Craft Book by Bonnie Burton and can be made following the directions in the PDF here.

4) Ornaments

If you wanted to decorate every inch of your Christmas tree with Star Wars ornaments, you could. There’s really no end to the ornaments that have been inspired by the franchise. Hallmark continues to offer a number of great options, and this year it has two Force Awakens choices. Merchoid revealed their own licensed ornaments last month, selling packs of six ornaments, each inspired by an original trilogy film, and a large pack featuring all 24 ornaments. Anyone that wants unique handmade ornaments can also find lots of great choices on Etsy.

5) Tree Skirts

Decorative skirts offer you another way to add Star Wars to your tree. While you can find these at stores like Target, Etsy has some especially cool options. The shop Tree Skirts by Patricia sells Star Wars tree skirts like the one above, as well as Darth Vader, spaceship, and more themes. It’s a great way to include a bit of the franchise to your festivities and will make removing gifts from under the tree a lot more fun as the geeky tree skirt is revealed underneath with the unwrapping of each present.

6) Lights

Brighten your nights with these geeky 10-light sets. String up R2-D2 lights in order to have your own droid companion around, or feel like an Imperial and have some stormtroopers hanging up nearby instead. Other familiar faces from the saga are available in sets, too, so you can choose exactly which side of the Force you want lighting your holiday celebrations.

7) Stockings

You might want your stocking full of Star Wars goodies, but why not have the outside show your love for the franchise too? There are many types of Star Wars stockings to choose from online, but Etsy once again presents some of the most creative and fun options for fans—in particular these amazing felt, vinyl, fur, and fleece stockings from ColieIsAMonsta.
