Miles Morales is finally coming to the big screen, albeit in animated form.

The Lego Movie writers Phil Lord and Chris Miller are writing a standalone Miles Morales feature for Sony Pictures, working with directors Bob Persichetti and Peter Ramsey.

Fans have been hoping to see a Miles Morales movie for a while now, but with Tom Holland joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Parker, a live-action adaptation seemed unlikely. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming is a teen drama like the Miles Morales comics, and seems to have rewritten Peter Parker’s role to include a version of Miles’ best friend.

Miles Morales previously appeared in several animated Spider-Man series including Ultimate Spider-Man, voiced by Donald Glover and Ogie Banks. Sony’s upcoming film will be a more extensive adaptation, a feature-length movie with a cinema release slated for December 2018.
