You don't just watch the trailer. You play the trailer.

We’ve seen video-game trailers before, but none like this.

Avalanche Studios just unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming game Just Cause 3. The reason the trailer deserves a plug is because its implementation is so creative. Just Cause 3 is an open world sandbox, which means you can tackle each mission in multiple ways. In the spirit of interactivity, the trailer uses YouTube annotations to ask you how to handle various situations. It then sends you to subsequent videos based on your choice, highlighting the flexibility that the game offers.

It’s definitely one of the most engaging trailers we’ve ever seen.

We hope more companies start using this choose-your-own-adventure style of promotion. It’s certainly more engaging than your standard trailer. It’s also a testament to the power of online video: something like this could only happen on a platform like YouTube.
