Deaf West Theatre took Broadway by storm last year, combining American Sign Language and traditional musical theater performance for a revival of Spring Awakening. The production is looking to reach even more audiences and has turned to Kickstarter to fund an appearance at the Tony Awards.

The cast and crew of Deaf West’s Spring Awakening earned three Tony nominations: Best Revival of a Musical, Best Lightning Design of a Musical, and Best Direction of a Musical. The problem is, Spring Awakening‘s  limited run means that the cast have now moved on to other projects, and Deaf West can’t afford the travel costs to get the gang back together.

In Deaf West’s Kickstarter video, cast and crew members explain why this production of Spring Awakening is so important, and why it deserves to be seen during the Tony Awards show.

With 12 days to go, Deaf West have achieved about a third of their $200,000 goal. Here’s hoping they can manage the rest!
