A video of a teacher arguing with a student over properly wearing face masks in class is going viral, and viewers are firmly on the teacher’s side.

The classroom freakout supposedly started when a biology teacher saw one of his students wearing her mask below her nose.

“Put the mask on. I’m serious,” the teacher said. “Put it up. I’m tired of this crap. I’m sorry. You don’t understand: This is a pandemic. It’s serious. … You think it’s funny? It’s not funny.”

The teacher started going off about how President Donald Trump has handled the pandemic and how he has continuously lied to the American people.

“[Trump] doesn’t even know what the hell he’s talking about, because what comes out of his mouth is just bullish*t,” the teacher said. “If you actually believe his 20,000 lies, then you’re a moron. I’m sorry, I don’t care.”

The anti-mask student, who was the subject of this lecture, then asked: “Are professors allowed to bring politics into class?”

The biology teacher simply replied, “I just did.”

The teacher then apologized to the class for going off.

“I’m sorry about that. I’m just scared people,” the teacher said. “I’m just worried because I don’t want to go to purple.”

“Going purple” is part of California’s color-coded reopening plan. It means that when a county’s COVID-19 cases are so “widespread,” schools in that county have to move to 100% online learning.

But the anti-mask student held her ground and defended Trump supporters.

“That’s kind of derogatory to call people morons just for listening to the president,” the student said. And in response, the teacher just let out a deep sigh.

The TikTok video, posted by @kategilmorexx, has been shared on Reddit’s “Public Freakout” forum, along with other social media platforms.

Viewers supported the teacher for being real with his students and empathized with the frustration that he and all other teachers face while trying to safely do their job during the pandemic. Since schools started reopening in the fall, at least eight teachers in the U.S. have died from the coronavirus.

“I have SO much respect for him,” one TikTok user commented.

“His life is literally at risk so yuh as he should,” another said.

Many viewers made fun of the anti-mask student. “‘Are teachers supposed to bring politics into the classroom???’ – Conservative kids to teachers when the teacher says anything about politics,” one viewer said.

Some users pointed out a public health crisis should not be considered “political” in the first place.

“Also this isn’t politics??? It’s about public health and safety…caring about the well-being of his students isn’t political,” one TikTok user said.

And one Reddit user said the teacher represented how everyone feels during the pandemic without saying a word.

“That sigh at the end is everything I’ve felt since March 21.”
