The wacky webcomic writers for Cyanide and Happiness have finally launched their much-anticipated online show.
Set in the same format of Robot Chicken, it follows random characters, in random set pieces, as setups for jokes and other bits.
But the project is nothing new. The teams has been doing it for years with various shorts. Those shorts have propelled it to YouTube stardom. It has over 3.6 million subscribers with over 490 million views. Rightly so, the videos are an odd, but hilarious, mix of abrupt black humor that’s overtly weird and doesn’t pretend to be profound. It really does feel like a group of writers with free reign to animate whatever their twisted minds can think of.
The show was Kickstarted earlier this year, surpassing its goal by miles. The Explosm team has been vigilant in putting out shorts in a very timely fashion. It has already pushed out episode two. It really is an Internet success story, one that has been in the making for the past decade.
