Vince-Vaughn-cancelled

It seems more and more frequently, Twitter users find someone new to cancel. This morning, it’s actor Vince Vaughn for being caught conversing with President Donald Trump.

Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and Vaughn shared a brief conversation on Monday at the NCAA football national championship game. A 30-second video posted to Twitter shows Vaughn talking and shaking Trump’s hand in the president’s box seats.

Soon after the video was published, Twitter users on both sides began to cancel each other.

“I’m very sorry to have to share this video with you. All of it, every part of it,” former Deadspin editor Tim Burke tweeted along with the video.

The framing of it from Burke most likely had much to do with “Sweet Caroline” playing in the background, but that subtweet was completely missed.

“Vince Vaughn had the chance to stand up to a rapist, traitor, and child murderer, and instead he enthusiastically shook Donald Trump’s hand. F*ck em both,” @PalmerReport tweeted.

Another Twitter user remembered when Ellen DeGeneres was supposedly canceled for hanging out with former President George W. Bush. The two were seen at a Dallas Cowboys football game in October.

“Ellen thought she had it rough…” @alexasalvinews tweeted. “Keep Vince Vaughn in your prayers tonight.”

Vaughn is a libertarian, according to Fox News, and supported Republicans in past elections. And it was the conservatives who swooped in to defend Vaughn.

They canceled his cancelation so to speak.

“It’s an amazing time to be alive when shaking the hand of the president is enough to get you canceled,” @jason_howerton tweeted. “Vince Vaughn doesn’t strike me as one to give a shit fortunately. Y’all have lost your minds. You never learn.”

But, some on the left say that this was blown out of proportion.

“Democrats aren’t mad about Vince Vaughn chatting with Trump. Nobody cares. Fox & Friends and Hogan Gidley are making stuff up.” Vox’s Aaron Rupar tweeted.

However, to avoid any chance of cancelation, it seems as though celebrities should steer clear of political figures at football games.
